Most designs seen on social media and dramatized home makeover shows catch the eye but are more than likely just following the newest trends on the market. This is when the idea of timeless design usually rears its head.
So, what is timeless design? The word “timeless” is quite literally defined as “not affected by the passage of time or changes in fashion”. Your home is a direct reflection of you and the last thing you want is for someone to age you. At JSF Design, we are keenly aware of the comings and goings of the latest trends on the market and what designs are “in”, but we don’t let them dictate how our spaces come together.
When creating a unique space that will be just as groundbreaking and effortlessly beautiful in 30 years as it is now, there are key ideas that we use in our creative processes. One of the most important aspects of a timeless luxury design is the quality of the materials chosen. This goes for every building block of a space, from the fabric of the furniture, to the stone in the kitchen, to the glass of the windows. When something is well-made, it won’t just look beautiful but it will also last longer. In the end, high-quality materials produce high-quality environments.
Another key idea that we keep in mind when creating timeless designs is geometry. Geometry is a naturally occurring phenomena and therefore will never go “out of style”. Using symmetry, scale, focal points, and even light and shadow, it comes together and creates a basis for any space that will go beyond.
Design is an art form, and like any art, it must speak to the audience taking it in. It must tell a story that crosses the idea of time and space, and that is truly what makes something timeless.
